SKY 52K

This route takes place near the imposing Pico de Orizaba, the highest point in Mexico and the third highest peak in North America. More than a sporting challenge, it is a unique cultural experience in the magical town of Orizaba, famous for its vibrant history, traditions and its importance in Mexican heritage.

Technical Characteristics of the Route:

  • Total Distance: 52+ kilometers.

  • Elevation Gain: +4,999 m and -5,380 m, an extreme challenge that demands physical endurance and altitude adaptation.
  • Altitude Range: From 1,244 m to 3,121 m above sea level. This range demands outstanding physical and mental preparation.

  • Difficulty Level: High. Includes technical sections with steep slopes and rocky terrain that require advanced skyrunning skills.

  • Surface and Terrain: The route traverses forested trails, rocky paths, and loose terrain. Participants will experience a variety of textures, from compacted earth to stony areas.

Natural and Ecological Aspects:

Flora and Fauna: The route offers a natural spectacle, with vegetation adapted to the altitude and climate. It is possible to observe endemic species and, occasionally, wild fauna native to the mountains.

Weather Conditions:

Altitude brings significant climatic changes. Runners must be prepared to transition from warm temperatures at low altitudes to extreme cold at higher altitudes.

Recommendations and Preparation:

  • Recommended Equipment:
    • Technical footwear with good grip.
    • Appropriate clothing for different weather conditions.
    • Effective hydration system.

  • Physical Preparation:
    • Familiarize yourself with mountain conditions, including safety and basic first aid.

IMPORTANT: In case of abandonment, disqualification or arriving after the time cut, the runner’s number will be removed and/or marked.

  • Mobile phone: Fully charged battery, roaming activated, and turned on during the race.
  • Thermal blanket: Must fully cover the body.
  • Windbreaker jacket: Waterproof and breathable.
  • Whistle: Attached to your backpack.
  • Bottles, reservoir, or soft flask: Minimum capacity of 1.5 liters.
  • Cup or container for liquids: No disposable cups will be provided at aid stations to reduce waste.
  • Race bib: Must be visible at the front of the runner throughout the race.
  • Footwear: Suitable for technical mountain terrain.
  • Headlamp: Fully functional and with charged batteries.
  • Canes: for mountain areas.

  • Electrolytes and/or mineral salts, bars, gels, fruit…
  • Mini first aid kit, with material to heal small wounds, cuts or grazes, as well as antihistamines (avapena), anti-inflammatories and analgesics.< /span>
