SKY 35K

This route unfolds near the majestic Pico de Orizaba, the highest peak in Mexico and the third highest peak in North America. It not only represents a challenge for runners, but also an opportunity to immerse themselves in the rich culture and traditions of the magical town of Orizaba, known for its vibrant history and importance in Mexican heritage.

Technical Characteristics of the Route:

  • Total Distance: 35K
  • Elevation difference: 2,974 meters + and 3,555 meters -, presenting a considerable challenge in terms of resistance and ability to acclimatize to altitude.
  • Altitude Range: From 1,244 meters above sea level to reaching a maximum point of 3,121 meters. This significant variation requires excellent physical and mental preparation.
  • Technical Level: High. The route includes technical sections that demand advanced Skyrunning skills, especially in the steeper and rockier sections.
  • Surface and Terrain: The course traverses a variety of terrain, from wooded trails to rocky mountain roads, offering a complete Skyrunning experience. Runners will face sections of compact dirt, rocky areas and very loose areas.

Natural and Ecological Aspects:

Flora and Fauna: Participants will be able to appreciate a rich variety of local flora and fauna adapted to the altitude and climate of the region. It is common to see endemic species of plants and, if you are lucky, some wild animals characteristic of the high mountain area.

Weather conditions:

Due to the great variation in altitude, runners must be prepared to face sudden changes in weather, from warmer areas in the lower parts to intense cold at the highest points.

Recommendations and Preparation:

  • Proper Skyrunning gear is essential, including grippy footwear, clothing for various weather conditions, and hydration systems.
  • It is recommended to become familiar with mountain safety practices and have basic first aid knowledge.

IMPORTANT: In case of abandonment, disqualification or arriving after the time cut, the runner’s number will be removed and/or marked.

NOTE: In case of adverse weather, the recommended equipment will be activated.

  • Mobile phone: with the battery fully charged, roaming activated and on throughout the test.
  • Thermal blanket: minimum surface that covers the body completely.
  • Windbreaker jacket: waterproof and breathable.
  • Whistle: the one with the backpack
  • Bottles, tank or bag (soft flask type) for water or hydrating drinks: with a minimum capacity of 1.5 liters.
  • Glass or container for liquids: at supply points there will be no disposable cups in order to avoid generating garbage ;
  • Competitor’s (dorsal) number: placed visibly, in front and above the clothing throughout the test.
  • Footwear: suitable for running on technical terrain mountain.
  • Canes: for mountain areas.
  • Front light: in perfect working order and with charged batteries.

  • Electrolytes and/or mineral salts, bars, gels, fruit…
  • Mini first aid kit, with material to heal small wounds, cuts or grazes, as well as antihistamines (avapena), anti-inflammatories and analgesics.< /span>
