SKY 25K

Located near the city of Orizaba and still on the slopes of the majestic Pico de Orizaba, the Sky 25 K route offers a unique experience that combines nature and culture. Orizaba, recognized as a magical town, is a treasure of Mexican traditions and heritage, providing a historical and cultural backdrop for runners.

Technical Characteristics of the Route:

  • Total Distance: 25 kilometers.
  • Elevation: 1,528 meters + and 2796 -, presenting a considerable challenge in terms of resistance and ability to acclimatize to altitude.
  • Altitude Range: From 1,244 meters to 3,143 meters above sea level, requiring careful preparation for altitude acclimatization.
  • Technical Level: High. The route features challenging technical sections suitable for experienced runners, including steep trails and uneven terrain.
  • Surface and Terrain: Participants will cross a varied terrain, from forested trails to mountainous areas, highlighted by its lush and unique vegetation, typical of the Orizaba region.

Natural and Ecological Aspects:

Flora and Fauna: The route offers the opportunity to observe the rich biodiversity of the region, with a wide variety of plant and animal species.

Weather conditions:

Runners must be prepared to face changes in weather, with varying temperatures along the route due to differences in altitude.

  • Proper Skyrunning gear is essential, including sturdy footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, and hydration systems.
  • Having knowledge of orientation, first aid and mountain safety practices is highly advisable.

The 25 km route of the “Mexico Sky Challenge” is a unique experience that challenges runners to exceed their limits in an environment of natural beauty and cultural richness, symbolizing the best of Orizaba and Mexico.

IMPORTANT: In case of abandonment, disqualification or arriving after the time cut, the runner’s number will be removed and/or marked.

PROFILE

NOTE: In case of adverse weather, the recommended equipment will be activated.

  • Mobile phone: with the battery fully charged, roaming activated and on throughout the test.
  • Thermal blanket: minimum surface that covers the body completely.
  • Windbreaker jacket: waterproof and breathable.
  • Whistle: the one with the backpack
  • Bottles, tank or bag (soft flask type) for water or hydrating drinks: with a minimum capacity of 1.5 liters.
  • Glass or container for liquids: at supply points there will be no disposable cups in order to avoid generating garbage ;
  • Competitor’s (dorsal) number: placed visibly, in front and above the clothing throughout the test.
  • Footwear: suitable for running on technical terrain mountain.
  • Canes: for mountain areas.
  • Front light: in perfect working order and with charged batteries.
